Overview
In this Specialist Doctor role within our community mental health service, you will operate with defined competencies to support assessment and management of psychiatric conditions. You will work under supervision yet maintain autonomy in a multidisciplinary setting, contributing to both routine and urgent care. The position offers a path toward Specialist Training or CESR via Article 14, with opportunities to influence service delivery. You will engage with local governance, CPD activities, and cross-team collaboration to deliver timely, patient-centered care. This role appeals to experienced psychiatrists seeking impact in community settings and professional advancement.
Responsibilities
- Autonomously perform clinical duties within defined competencies in line with governance
- Provide specialist expertise in psychiatry and collaborate with consultant and multidisciplinary team
- Assess and manage mental health problems in routine and emergency contexts
- Conduct 6β7 outpatient clinics per week at CMHT base or GP surgeries
- Deliver direct clinical care for 8 PAs per week; allocate 2 sessions to professional activities
- See new referrals and review existing patients; manage urgent cases via clinics or telephone contact
- Attend CPA meetings, professional meetings, case conferences, and home visits as needed
- Liaise with team members and provide timely contact to patients and carers
- Triage referrals in blended triage meetings to ensure safe, prompt service
- Provide liaison services to secondary mental health teams, GPs, and primary care workers
Key requirements
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or consultant level within the last 3 years
- Desirable: experience in service development and introducing new services in mental health
