Overview

Lead and deliver authoritative fire safety leadership across the Trust’s estate, aligning with HTM 05-01 and updates. You will provide expert fire engineering, risk assessment and compliance guidance to the Fire Safety Team and key stakeholders. Based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, you’ll drive a compliant fire safety management system across complex, high‑risk premises. This is a chance to shape safety culture, improve risk controls, and support trust-wide assurance. You will work closely with clinical and estates teams to protect patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on fire safety, engineering and compliance for the Trust's estate
  • Lead and deliver fire risk assessments, hazard identification and control development
  • Support Fire Authority audits and investigations, including root-cause analysis and improvement actions
  • Contribute to capital projects and minor/major works affecting fire safety
  • Design and deliver mandatory fire safety training to multidisciplinary teams
  • Prepare clear, professional reports for senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Maintain knowledge of HTM 05-01 Firecode and related HTMs
  • Promote a compliant fire safety management system across sites

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in managing Fire Safety in large, high-risk environments (hospitals, universities, multi-occupancy)
  • Proven ability to apply fire safety principles, risk management frameworks and legislation (RRO 2005)
  • Skilled in Fire Risk Assessments, hazard identification, risk evaluation and control measures
  • Experience with Fire Authority audits and investigations and implementing improvements
  • Experience with capital development schemes and major projects related to fire safety
  • Ability to design and deliver mandatory fire safety training
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • HTM 05-01 Firecode and related HTMs
  • NEBOSH / Degree level or equivalent qualification
  • Membership of professional body (IFE/IFPO or similar)
  • CPD in fire safety or related fields
  • Certificate in Training Practice or equivalent (or extensive training experience)
  • Communication and negotiation with external agencies (Fire Authorities, contractors)
  • Diplomacy and tact in challenging situations
  • Professionalism and empathy in handling sensitive feedback or complaints
  • Fire risk assessment methodology
  • Fire safety regulations and regulatory frameworks
  • Root cause analysis and incident investigation
