In this role you will support the ICU mission to deliver high-quality critical care across three sites, focusing on leadership, education, and service development. You will work within a collegial, cross-functional team to manage a busy 20-bed ICU with recent equipment upgrades, including information systems and ventilatory support. The post involves on-call duties at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and potential daytime work across Anaesthesia or Medical Division depending on qualifications. Responsibilities
- Cover Consultant of the Week rota (1:8) including obstetrics and emergency theatre
- Participate in a Consultant of the Week model with prospective cover
- Provide on-call emergency ITU cover and supervise resident anaesthetists
- Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
- Lead assessments of deteriorating patients and theatre admissions
- Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice and participate in appraisal and job planning
- Satisfy revalidation criteria and maintain mandatory training
- Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise
- Engage in continuing medical education and personal development
Key requirements
- Must be on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine or within 6 months of eligibility
- Licence to Practise
- Experience of specialist training in Intensive Care Medicine with eligibility for joint CCT or equivalent
- Ability to provide high-level clinical care across all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine
- Ability to lead and work across professions
- Teaching and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff
- Leadership and ability to lead others across professions
