Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust is offering the opportunity to combine a rewarding job in oncology with an unrivalled lifestyle in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of the country. We are seeking an enthusiastic oncologist to join our team at Torbay, with a particular interest in urology and breast. We will also consider an alternative tumour site in addition to urology.
The post-holder would be expected and encouraged to work with the existing oncologists to contribute to research, clinical governance, peer review, audit, training of junior staff and medical students and undertake CME/CPD according to the requirements of their College.
Main duties of the job include:
- Joining the senior medical team in running outpatient clinics.
- Supporting patients having day case cancer treatment.
- Contributing to supporting unplanned care for cancer patients with the acute oncology team.
- Taking ownership for and delivering their own site-specific workload.
- Contributing to the medical leadership, management and innovation within Oncology services.
- Offering support and training to all non-consultant grade doctors within the unit.
- Promoting inter-disciplinary working in the department and across the hospital.
- Participating in clinical audit program, including both departmental and multidisciplinary audit.
- Contributing to research and innovative practice within oncology.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications and training: Full registration with the GMC licence to practice, Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists/Royal College Physicians (or equivalent qualification), Completion of higher specialist training in Clinical Oncology, Entry onto the Specialist Register.
- Clinical experience: Able and experienced to run a SACT service and radiotherapy service for a major tumour site and one other tumour site, Able to offer expert clinical opinion, Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients, Good communication skills.
- Specific skills: Ability to organise a practice in an efficient manner with due attention to timeliness and dealing with administration and enquiries.
- Teaching/research experience: Support junior medical staff, Experience of audit.
- Personal attributes: Honesty and reliability, Willingness to work flexibly according to the needs of the service, Ability to work in a team, Caring attitude to patients, Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other professional staff and agencies.
