Overview

In this role you will provide clinical leadership as the Primary Care Liaison Consultant, guiding a CMHT catchment in Wiltshire. You will triage referrals, assess patients, and determine appropriate care, while advising colleagues on assessment and management. Collaborating with Intensive Service, CMHT and Primary Care, you will help drive service quality and development, and supervise medical staff. The post sits within a cross‑functional team focused on safe, efficient, high‑quality care and ongoing improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership within the team and triage referrals
  • Assess patients (jointly where required) and determine appropriate care provisions
  • Offer expert advice on assessment and management to colleagues
  • Liaise with Intensive Service, CMHT and Primary Care; participate in weekly cross‑disciplinary interface meetings
  • Supervise doctors and other medical staff; participate in clinical supervision
  • Collaborate with Recovery, Intensive and Inpatient Services to facilitate care transitions
  • Contribute to service development in line with best practice and standards
  • Identify appropriate care clusters and patients needing specialist services
  • Monitor and evaluate service performance indicators and targets
  • Respond to Advice and Guidance requests within 3–5 working days
  • Deliver medical and MDT teaching and supervision; participate in QI initiatives
  • Attend PCLS MDT meetings and maintain involvement in teaching and supervision
  • Commit to ongoing training and leadership development

Key requirements

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with licence to practise; Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych‑equivalent (desirable)
  • Experience of assessing and treating patients in community settings
  • Leadership skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability to manage own time and prioritise clinical work
  • Commitment to undergraduate/postgraduate teaching; understand teaching principles
  • Experience or involvement in research and audit; willingness to engage in teaching and supervision
  • Management/leadership skills training (desirable)
  • Full UK professional registration; eligibility for UK practice
  • Desirable: CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
