In this role you will join Weston General Hospital’s busy Emergency Department as a Specialist in Emergency Medicine, contributing to high-quality, patient-centered urgent care. You will be part of a welcoming, multidisciplinary team aligned with the trust’s commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and service development. The job blends hands-on patient care with department leadership, including incident leadership and on-call responsibilities. You will operate within an established ED that supports SDEC, GEMs and geriatric emergency care, with opportunities to influence care pathways and training.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior clinical presence on the shop floor 08:00–00:00, seven days a week, with on-call duties
- Lead diagnosis, treatment and management of adult ED patients and contribute to the ED Observation Unit
- Collaborate with Assessment units, SDEC, ICU and specialty teams to ensure seamless patient-centered care
- Balance hands-on patient care with department management as Emergency Physician In Charge (EPIC)
- Lead during major incidents and support emergency admissions under on-call specialty teams
- Demonstrate commitment to clinical excellence, teamwork, teaching, and service development
Key requirements
- Fully registered with GMC
- Minimum 12 years medical work since primary qualification, with at least 6 years in a relevant specialty
- Meets generic capabilities framework for the specialist grade (AoMRC, BMA, NHS Employers)
- Strong teamwork and collaboration
- Excellent communication skills
- Leadership and team management
- Life support course instruction (ALS/ATLS/PALS/APLS or equivalent)
- Point of care ultrasound (POCUS)
- Advanced airway management
