Overview
You will lead the Juniper Ward team in an 18-bed acute inpatient setting, delivering high-quality care and guiding a multidisciplinary group. The role sits within a forward-thinking NHS trust focused on person-centred services and transformation. You’ll shape inpatient care, manage complex cases, and collaborate across community and hospital services. This is a chance to lead, grow, and make a meaningful impact in mental health provision.
Responsibilities
- Lead ward rounds and provide direct interventions for inpatients
- conduct ongoing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental and physical health needs
- manage MHA-related work, including reports and tribunal attendance
- provide supervision and advice to junior medical staff
- participate in psychoeducation, crisis response, relapse prevention and care planning
- liaise with community teams, GPs, and non-NHS organisations as applicable
- facilitate smooth patient handover with Intensive and recovery services
Key requirements
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent (approved by Royal College of Psychiatrists)
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry (desirable)
- Experience of inpatient assessment and treatment
- Understanding of consultant-level management skills
- Commitment to teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Experience in research and audit projects
- Evidence of leadership or management skills training
