Overview
In this role you will lead the cancer pharmacy service at Darent Valley Hospital, guiding inpatient and outpatient care within a multidisciplinary team. You will drive medicines management, support funding decisions and ensure high-quality pharmaceutical care across cancer services. You will clinically verify chemotherapy prescriptions and contribute to cost-effective prescribing and quality improvement. This leadership position focuses on patient safety, service sustainability and continuous improvement in a busy hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee pharmaceutical services for the Cancer service including inpatient wards
- Lead the senior pharmacy team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure safe, effective medication use
- Drive cost-saving initiatives and manage staff development and education within the department
- Enhance medication safety, contribute to clinical audits, and push continuous improvement
- Represent pharmacy at cancer government meetings, MDTs, and operational meetings
- Support training and education efforts and mentor junior staff
Key requirements
- GPhC registration as a pharmacist
- Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Completed SACT passport
- Independent prescriber (or working towards)
- Good clinical practice (GCP)
- Experience at band 7 or 8a level in hospital pharmacy
- Experience writing protocols/standards and working in cancer/clinical trials
- Multidisciplinary clinical pharmacy experience
