Overview
In this role you will help create a psycho-oncology service for lung cancer patients across County Durham and Darlington. You will work with the CDDFT lung MDT and external partners to scope, design, and implement evidence-based psychological support that reaches diverse populations. You will hold an active caseload, deliver specialist assessments and interventions, and contribute to research, training, and service development. A key objective is regional knowledge sharing to inform best practice and reduce inequalities.
Responsibilities
- Develop psycho-oncology support for lung cancer patients in County Durham and Darlington
- Maintain an active caseload with specialist assessments and interventions
- Collaborate with lung MDTs, charities, and external stakeholders to integrate psychology into existing pathways
- Contribute to research, training, and service development to enhance psycho-oncology delivery
- Share learnings regionally to inform and support regional psycho-oncology care
- Engage creatively to address social inequalities and improve reach across populations
- Work under supervision of the head of service and in a service-wide team context
- Coordinate with service continuity and governance to ensure high-quality clinical practice
Key requirements
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Experience in a health psychology setting
- Experience in hospital or cancer care settings
- Experience in multidisciplinary settings and liaising with external stakeholders
- Experience with research or service evaluation and dissemination of findings
- Experience applying clinical psychology across diverse cultural contexts
- Experience providing assessment, therapy, supervision, teaching, and training
- A willingness to travel across the Trust and regionally
- Effective communication, orally and in writing
