Overview
In this role you will lead high-quality, trauma-informed care for young people in a 12-bed General Adolescent Inpatient Unit.
You will work within a multidisciplinary CAMHS team to deliver evidence-based treatment plans, oversee clinical care, and support families.
You’ll engage in service development, teaching, and governance to improve outcomes for 13–18 year olds with acute mental health needs.

Responsibilities
- Provide senior psychiatric oversight and direct clinical care for children and adolescents under CAMHS
- Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, formulation and treatment planning
- Act as Responsible Clinician with Mental Health Act duties, CPA reviews, safeguarding and tribunals
- Lead MDT meetings and ensure integrated multi-agency care across community and inpatient pathways
- Contribute to CAMHS strategy, service redesign and pathway development in line with NICE guidance
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, incident reviews, risk management
- Deliver supervision, teaching and appraisal for trainees and MDT colleagues; contribute to CPD and research
- Maintain documentation, information governance, and compliance; uphold professional standards through appraisal and revalidation
- Key requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification (GMC)
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within six months of CCT)
- Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act 1983 (or eligible within timeframe)
- Strong knowledge of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Children Act and safeguarding legislation
- Experience with inpatient CAMHS and leading MDTs; risk assessment and management
- Ability to formulate and deliver evidence-based treatment plans including psychopharmacology
- Excellent communication with children, families, carers and partner agencies
- Experience in clinical governance, audit, and service improvement
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
