An exciting opportunity exists for a Deputy Head of Information Services to contribute to the continued development of our Trust's data warehouse. This key role, within a dynamic team will be responsible for developing and enhancing the Information Department, to continue to meet the needs of Croydon Healthcare NHS Trust.

Working closely with both clinical services and Informatics colleagues, the successful candidate will bring excellent technical and analytical skills, and knowledge and experience of using data and information to understand and support clinical services. In return, this challenging post will allow the successful applicant to play a crucial role in developing the performance and scope of the data warehouse within the trust. There will be chances to develop new skills and also offer the opportunity to be a part of many exciting and challenging projects currently being undertaken at the Trust.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Support the management, development, and ongoing support of the Trust's data warehouse and wider information management arrangements, acting as the subject matter expert on business intelligence.
  • Provide technical authority for the business intelligence function, supporting digital change initiatives across the department.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of informatics solutions to ensure the Trust meets national, commissioning, and local reporting requirements, supporting a comprehensive performance management framework.
  • Support delivering a robust technical environment that enables the Trust and its partners to use assured and reliable information for service change, efficiency, and continuous improvement in patient care.
  • Be involved with the development of self-serve data reporting tools, enabling colleagues to access key performance indicators, capacity and demand activity, and data quality metrics.
  • Ensure all data management and reporting activities comply with Information Governance, data protection, and NHS standards.

The Deputy Head of Information Services is a pivotal role within the Information department, responsible for ensuring the Trust excels as a data-driven organisation. The post holder will:

  • Work to build data engineering solutions that can move data between systems/platforms.
  • Contribute to the capture, transformation and loading of data, ensuring this activity is undertaken in a timely manner to facilitate and support the submission of information for monitoring Trust activity as well as statutory/contractual returns.
  • Have responsibility for ensuring that the data for clinical and operational analytic and reporting needs are consistent, accurate, and timely to enable the delivery of the Trust's clinical strategy.
  • Provide data and data models to support analytics and insight generation in response to ad-hoc requests and special projects where specialist input will be required.
  • Proactively engage with colleagues and other key contacts to achieve a shared understanding of information requirements and support the development of effective working relationships.
  • Provide oversight and advice on all data models used by the wider information department.
  • Be responsible for optimisation of the complex data processes and data design to provide a satisfactory user experience (internal and external to department).

Person Specification:

  • Education: Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience of working at a senior level in IT / Science Degree or equivalent relevant experience. Evidence of continuous relevant professional development.
  • Desirable: SQL certified DBA or other related SQL accreditations, such as MCITP.
  • Knowledge: Experience with all versions of SQL Server from 2016. Demonstrable and significant experience in the use of TSQL, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of SQL Azure, Power BI, Python, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Skills: Database design and administration, knowledge of programming, underpinned by significant experience and/or theoretical study.
  • Desirable: Experience in Cerner or EMIS, detailed knowledge of NHS Information standards and data definitions, team working, and interpersonal skills.
