Overview

In this role you will provide expert psychiatric care to adults on an acute inpatient ward as part of a supportive MDT. You will lead clinical assessments, treatments, and ward rounds, while acting as Responsible Clinician for detained patients. You’ll contribute to teaching, governance, and service development, with opportunities to pursue research and quality improvement. This position supports flexible working and professional development within a trusted, values-driven NHS environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for inpatients
  • Lead ward rounds and MDT meetings
  • Act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act
  • Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to teaching and training
  • Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement and service development
  • Support research, development, medical education or special interests

Key requirements

  • MB BS in Medicine; GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months; Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months
  • MRCPsych (desirable); additional clinical qualifications
  • UK driving licence or alternative arrangements
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty; strong bio-psycho-social approach; excellent communication in English
  • Demonstrated teaching, leadership and collaborative working abilities
  • Experience in research, audit, and quality improvement programmes
