Overview
In this Consultant Psychiatrist role, you will join Amber Ward, a 12-bed PICU, to lead high-quality, person-centred inpatient care for adults with acute mental health needs. You’ll work within an MDT to shape treatment, governance, and service development, influencing patient outcomes and care pathways. The post offers opportunities for research, teaching, and bespoke job planning within a supportive Trust network. A strong focus on collaborative leadership and continuous improvement underpins the role to advance mental health services in West Sussex.

Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for inpatients
- Lead ward rounds and MDT meetings
- Act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act
- Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to teaching and training
- Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development
- Support research, education, or special interests as part of role
- Join Trust-wide consultant networks and participate in peer support
Key requirements
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months; Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months
- MRCPsych (desirable) and additional clinical qualifications
- UK driving licence or evidence of alternative
- Excellent knowledge in specialty and broad medical knowledge
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to deliver teaching and training; work in and lead teams; participate in CPD
- Ability to use and appraise clinical evidence; participate in clinical audits and QI programmes
