Consultant Histopathologist in Cowbridge

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Histopathologist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of supportive Cellular Pathology Consultant colleagues based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The role offers the opportunity to develop exciting sub-specialty interests and potential opportunities for research and teaching. Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview. You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales with an enhanced starting salary of 140,342.

Main duties of the job include:

• The appointee would have interest primarily in breast pathology, with further interests in some of: gynaecological pathology, head and neck, endocrine, and pulmonary pathology.
• The post would suit either a first-time Consultant or an established Consultant Histopathologist wishing to relocate.
• There is no cervical cytology requirement.
• Together we will provide and develop a wide-ranging cellular pathology service to primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues.
• The appointee will take a lead role in the development of specialist diagnostic techniques to meet the increasing demands of clinical users.
• Participation in the training of specialty trainees, scientific and BMS staff is expected.
• A commitment to contribute to the requirements of clinical governance and share in the administrative duties associated with the running of a clinical laboratory is also expected.

Qualifications required include:

• Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
• On Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR(CP) due within six months of interview date.
• FRCPath or equivalent by examination.
• Evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT for non-UK trained applicants.

Essential experience includes broad training and experience in adult pathology, with desirable sub-specialist experience in one or more areas.

Essential abilities include:

• Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working.
• Counselling / Communication skills.

Audit participation and understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance is essential.

Teaching responsibilities include evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors, as well as organisation of (undergraduate and/or postgraduate) teaching programmes.

Personal qualities required include evidence of ability to work both in a team and alone, along with a flexible approach.
