Overview
In this role you will lead medicines formulary management across UHCW and the wider system, shaping cost-effective, evidence-based prescribing. You will work closely with primary and secondary care teams to implement formulary changes and drive medicines optimisation. You will coordinate interface projects to improve safety and value, while providing expert support to clinicians. This is a senior, strategic position with autonomy and cross-site impact in a pioneering NHS Trust.
Responsibilities
- Review APC outcomes and support changeover to formulary alternatives with secondary care clinicians
- Lead proactive formulary review and management from a secondary care perspective
- Support APC applications and education of GP practices regarding formulary changes
- Coordinate cross-sector projects to enhance cost effectiveness and safety of prescribing
- Resolve GP refusals ensuring timely, appropriate prescriptions and care
- Coordinate APC subgroups to develop consistent guidelines for primary and secondary care
- Liaise with partner organisations to deliver health system objectives and targets
- Respond to interface inquiries from healthcare professionals, staff, patients and the public
- Manage cost-effective introduction and use of medications across UHCW and wider system
Key requirements
- Master's degree in pharmacy
- +1 year trainee pharmacist training (or equivalent)
- GPhC registered practising pharmacist
- Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Evidence of CPD
- Experience in complex clinical hospital settings and influencing senior staff
- Understanding of how medications are introduced into a hospital
- Able to deliver out-of-hours emergency duty commitment
- Ability to lead and develop others
