Overview
In this role you will lead clinical pharmacy services for Women’s Health and Maternity, delivering safe, timely and cost‑effective care across wards and clinics. You’ll develop and oversee services that navigate the patient journey, collaborate with Trust teams and external partners, and lead a pharmacist and technician team to meet service demand. You’ll set patient‑outcome KPIs and work with Clinical Service Leads to ensure a skilled, ward‑based model of care. You’ll also build competencies to extend services to Neonatal and Paediatrics.

Responsibilities
- Check prescriptions for clarity, safety and efficacy on wards and in dispensaries; obtain accurate drug histories when needed
- Query and inform prescribers to adjust prescriptions for patient safety and effective therapy
- Provide medicines policy information to nursing and medical staff on wards
- Give patients information about their medications and address questions
- Oversee dispensing or supervision of technicians to ensure an efficient medication supply service
- Act as floor team leader to direct and organise pharmacy teams
- Ensure discharge medications are accurate and communicated to primary care; minimize waste by using patient’s own drugs when appropriate
- Provide education and training on pharmaceutical aspects of Women’s Health and Maternity to healthcare professionals
- Manage junior rotational staff including line management and supervision as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve quality and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceutical care and prescribing
Key requirements
- Masters Degree in Pharmacy
- +1 year pre-registration training (or equivalent)
- Registered as a practising pharmacist with the GPHC
- Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Evidence of CPD
- Registered independent prescriber (or currently working towards)
- Suitable clinical pharmacy experience post registration (community, primary or secondary care)
- Experience dealing with complex clinical situations
- Experience in influencing senior medical and nursing staff
- Experience in training non-pharmacy healthcare professionals
- Good clinical pharmacy knowledge
- Up to date medicines legislation knowledge
- Ability to identify costs associated with prescribing changes
- Ability to manage change
- Ability to present complex information clearly to groups and individuals
