In this Chief Medical Officer role, you will provide strategic medical leadership across a large NHS foundation, shaping policy and professional practice. You will oversee Medical Education, Research & Development, Quality and Innovation, and serve as Caldicott Guardian and Responsible Officer, ensuring governance and confidentiality standards. You will lead with credibility in a complex organisation, aligning GMC guidance with Trust values while driving improvement and innovation. Responsibilities
- Provide professional leadership and education for the medical workforce and align practices with GMC guidance
- Act as Caldicott Guardian and Responsible Officer with emphasis on confidentiality and information sharing
- Lead Medical Education, Research & Development, Quality and Innovation portfolios, ensuring legal and statutory obligations are met
- Demonstrate credible, visible leadership and manage a wide portfolio within a large organisation
- Support executive leadership, drive change, and contribute to strategy at Board level
Key requirements
- Current GMC/GDC registration and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
- Sustained CPD and ongoing professional development
- MBA or other postgraduate management qualification (or substantial management experience)
- Comprehensive understanding of the NHS and its infrastructure
- Outstanding medical leadership in a complex organisation and Board-level exposure
- Negotiation skills and track record of achieving results
- Proven change management experience
- Current UK professional registration
- Excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Influence and challenge of assumptions across boundaries
