Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry EIP and CTT

This is a new post for an adult for a consultant psychiatrist/experienced SAS to provide medical input into the EIP team located in Cumbria. Post holders will work along with multidisciplinary teams covering the adult population in North-Cumbria. The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states.

Main duties of the job

This is an 10PA substantive post providing senior clinical and leadership input in the Early Intervention in Psychosis team in North Cumbria. The post-holder is expected to:

• Participate in the engagement, assessment, diagnosis and formulation of patients referred to the CTT.
• Be committed to delivering excellence in clinical care.
• Work effectively with the multidisciplinary community team and in-patient teams.
• Promote the safety and well-being of the patients we serve.
• Respect the rights and the dignity of patients.
• Consider the individual and cultural needs of patients.
• Work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers' Charter).

Job responsibilities

As a Consultant Psychiatrist working in the EIP Team in Cumbria, you will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment which is evidence based. You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support. The post holder would be expected to be included on the specialist register (or eligible within 6 months) and Approved Clinician Status.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

• Essential: MBBS (or equivalent), Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT, Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, Approved Clinician Status.
• Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent qualification, Possess a CCT/CESR in Psychiatry, Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, Has undergone training in educational supervision, Has undergone training in appraisal.

Knowledge

• Essential: Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry, Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
• Desirable: An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.

Experience

• Essential: Experience of multidisciplinary team working, Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings, Experience of Clinical Audit.
• Desirable: Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies, Experience in service management or development.

Skills

• Essential: High level of clinical skills, Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Adult Psychiatry, Excellent communication skills, Excellent teaching skills, Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner.
• Desirable: Established record of clinical leadership, Established ability as a clinical teacher, Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy.
