The predicted salary is between 109725 - 145478 Β£ per year.

We wish to appoint a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, with an interest in General Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery and Trauma, with a subspecialty interest in Skin Cancer management. You will undertake your clinical commitments across Bay at the three sites and take part in the consultant on call rota. It is envisaged that the post holder will develop a subspecialty interest to complement those of the existing consultants.

Main duties of the job:

  • Participate in a general consultant on call rota, with a commitment to undertake a weekend morning trauma list during your on-call weekend. This on call rota is a 1:4 when this vacancy is filled.
  • Work closely with our ENT colleagues in the MDT Head and Neck cancer service, as well as the Clinical Nurse Specialists who link up exceptionally well with the Regional Head and Neck Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust).

About us:

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification:

  • Attainments:
    • Essential: MBChB or equivalent, BDS or equivalent, Full registration with GMC +/- GDCC, CST or equivalent/ Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, FRCS (OMFS), Entry on Specialist register (or expected within 6/12), Research experience, Recognised as medical educator.
    • Desirable: Surgical prize, Publications, Formal teaching qualification.
  • Training:
    • Essential: Trained Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
    • Desirable: Evidence of subspecialist training in skin cancer management and local skin MDT experience.
  • Experience:
    • Essential: Research experience.
    • Desirable: Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Special Skills:
    • Essential: Leadership qualification, Experience in positions of responsibility e.g. editorial commitment, membership, Proven team working, Computer literate.
    • Desirable: Evidence of management training or experience, Attended advanced communications course.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Essential: Record of personal development, Resident within 10 miles/30 minutes of Royal Lancaster Infirmary, The post holder must be able to travel to all units within the network and to attend out of hours to see emergency patients.
  • Physical:
    • Essential: Good general health and able to carry out the duties of the post, Valid occupational health passport.
