In this role you will provide consultant-led trauma and orthopaedic care with a focus on foot and ankle pathology. You’ll help develop specialist foot and ankle services across Hywel Dda UHB and contribute to a regional network, while working within a busy trauma unit and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The position offers opportunities to influence pathways, education, and service improvement in South West Wales. Responsibilities
- Deliver elective and trauma foot and ankle services across Hywel Dda University Health Board
- Develop and support specialist foot and ankle pathways and link with the South West Wales Foot and Ankle Network
- Share responsibility for acute trauma patient management via on-call rota
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide patient-centred care
- Participate in regional MDT meetings including diabetic foot and complex foot and ankle pathology
- Contribute to integration of pathways across hospital and community settings to improve patient experience
- Teach, train and supervise junior medical staff and the wider multidisciplinary workforce
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development activities
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration with License to Practice
- GMC Specialist Register (or CCT expected within six months) or CESR/EC rights
- Valid Advanced Life Support
- Sub-specialty training appropriate for UK consultant practice (fellowship or equivalent)
- Broad base experience in the specialty and ability to lead a team
- Willingness to teach all staff groups; teaching qualification desirable
- Awareness of current research, guidelines and quality improvement practices
- Knowledge of clinical governance; involvement in audit and annual job planning
- Safeguarding knowledge and applying equality and diversity legislation
- Welsh language ability desirable (Level 1)
- UK NHS or UK-based experience desirable
