This is an excellent opportunity to join the Cardiology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. The postholder will contribute towards the delivery and development of both the inpatient and outpatient heart failure service at East & North Herts NHS Trust. They will also support the Cardiac Imaging Department through regular imaging sessions, including complex echocardiography and, where appropriate CMR for candidates with relevant experience. The role includes participation in the 'Cardiologist of the Week' rota, which includes 1:9 weekend ward rounds. A strong commitment to the training and education of trainees and other staff members is essential.

The successful applicant is expected to be actively involved in the Heart Failure Service at East and North Herts NHS Trust and will work closely with the Integrated Heart Failure Service (Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust) and the Hospital at Home Service. In addition, they are expected to contribute to the cardiac imaging department. Extensive experience in complex echocardiography (TOE, stress echocardiography) is needed and experience in other imaging modalities (predominantly CMR, but also CT) is desirable. The ideal candidate should have an interest in valvular heart disease, as we are currently in the process of setting up a Valve Clinic.

The post holder will also contribute towards the general cardiology service at the Lister, including participation in the Cardiologist of the week Rota, which includes weekend cardiology ward rounds.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in continuing medical education

Essential qualifications include:

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCP or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Advanced Life Support

Essential previous experience includes:

  • Broad range of experience in Cardiology
  • Experience in Heart Failure
  • Experience in Complex Echocardiography
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
