This post is for two full-time Consultant Anaesthetists to work on the Barnet and Chase Farm sites. This post covers theatres with a mixture of fixed and flexible sessions. The successful candidate will be expected to provide anaesthetic cover in various areas, including emergency, trauma, and labour ward cover, as well as cover for elective theatre lists. The current specialties include Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, General Surgery, Maxillo-Facial, ENT, and Orthopaedics.

2 PA Weekend elective lists and weekday activity as per job plan. No on-call commitments. An option for an 11th PA may be offered during job planning depending on service requirements; however, this is not required to undertake. A job planning review will take place within the first three months.

Main duties of the job include delivering adult and paediatric general anaesthesia at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. The successful candidate will have a CCT in Anaesthesia. Barnet Hospital is an acute hospital with all emergency services including ENT, General Surgery, trauma, orthopaedics, Max Fax, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, and urology. There are seven operating theatres, an interventional cardiology suite, and two intensive care units. Chase Farm is an elective hub with eight operating theatres covering all elective specialties.

Job responsibilities include training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, understanding of recent changes in the training of Anaesthetic Doctors, and training in Anaesthesia at stage 3 level or equivalent.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register via CCT in Anaesthesia (proposed CCT date must be within six months of interview)
  • FRCA or equivalent

Desirable qualifications include MD or PhD and an outstanding research record.

Essential skills include strong teaching skills and experience, understanding of clinical governance and audit procedures, and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Personal qualities should include being motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic.
