In this role you lead Cygnet Hospital Colchester, driving safe, compassionate, and person-centred care. You oversee operational and clinical performance, guiding multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality services across multiple units. You’ll shape strategy, manage risk and compliance, and build strong relationships with commissioners and regulators. Responsibilities
- Overall day-to-day management and strategic direction of the hospital
- Visible, effective and compassionate leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure clinical quality, regulatory compliance, workforce performance and service development
- Oversee hospital operations, governance, and service performance
- Risk assessment and risk management; safeguarding and Mental Health Act compliance
- Workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and staff development
- Budgetary control and financial performance; health and safety and estates standards
- Manage commissioner relationships, contracts and KPIs; external reputation
- Lead service development and occupancy improvements across the hospital
Key requirements
- At least two years of significant management or leadership experience in a similar healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of hospital operations, clinical governance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance
- Understanding of the Mental Health Act and national care standards
- Experience leading services for mental health, learning disabilities, autism or related behaviours
- Proven budget, staffing, resources and financial performance management
- Ability to translate policies into safe, consistent practice
- Experience auditing services and leading sustainable change
- Strong people-management skills: coaching, performance management and development
- Ability to build relationships with service users, families, commissioners, regulators and external agencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to produce professional reports
- Ability to delegate, prioritise and stay composed under pressure
- On-call flexibility; full UK driving license
- Relevant degree, management qualification or nursing registration would be advantageous
