Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry in Cockermouth

As a specialist in Adult Community Psychiatry, you will work with the CPNs and integrated team psychologists to provide medical expertise for CTT patients across psychosis and non-psychosis pathways. You will be an active member in supporting the Trust and your team during the Transformation work that the Trust is currently undertaking. The job is a 10PAs a week and you will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team, including SAS doctors, resident doctors, and wider clinical teams, ensuring best practice care is delivered and supporting the team.

Main duties of the job:

• The post-holder will provide Consultant clinical leadership to the service and will assume consultant psychiatrist responsibility for their proportion of patients being looked after by the team.
• This includes assuming Responsible Clinician status for patients under their care, including patients subject to Community Treatment Orders, taking a lead on compliance with the Mental Health Act and CQC requirements.
• They will participate, directly and indirectly, in the assessment of patients referred to the service and in drawing up care plans which will address the patients' psychiatric, physical, and social needs.
• They will carry out detailed psychiatric assessments of patients as clinically indicated to allow accurate diagnoses and contribute to their treatment plans, including pharmacological management of psychotropic medication.
• The post-holder will forge good working relationships with other psychiatrists across the Directorate to encourage appropriate referrals and assure a cooperative approach to the care of patients.
• They will be linked in with other Consultants and supported to join peer groups.
• They will also provide consultation and advice to members of the MDT and primary care colleagues.

Job responsibilities:

• The clinical responsibilities of the job will include Psychiatric assessment and management of patients aged 18 and above.
• The post holder would work together with the wider multidisciplinary team and external agencies to develop and deliver formulations, risk assessment and care plan and treatment packages through the use of their expertise in diagnostics, psychopharmacology and other psychosocial interventions.
• The post holder will contribute to service management and development together with their line managers and co-workers.
• The post holder will participate in the out of hours on call rota.
• The Job dedicated SPA time to supporting you in professional activities including continuous professional development, developing any academic interest and to partake in teaching, audit and research.
• This is a substantive and full-time post however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.
• Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview.
• Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.

Person Specification:

• Qualifications and Training:
• Essential: MBBS (or equivalent), RCPsych or equivalent qualification, Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT, Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, Approved Clinician Status.
• Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field, Has undergone training in educational supervision, Has undergone training in appraisal.
• Knowledge:
• Essential: Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry, Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
• Desirable: An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
• Experience:
• Essential: Experience of multidisciplinary team working, Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings, Experience of Clinical Audit, Excellent knowledge in specialty, Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge, Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement, Participated in continuous professional development, Participated in research or service evaluation.
• Desirable: Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies, Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients, Experience in service management or development.
