An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join Oaktrees Specialist Eating Disorder Inpatient Unit. The successful candidate will provide a high quality, specialist psychology service to inpatients living with an Eating Disorder providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy. Alongside this they will provide consultation and advice on patients' psychological care to psychologist/therapist colleagues, non-psychologist colleagues and carers. The postholder will supervise trainees and qualified practitioners as agreed, working autonomously within the framework of the service's policies and procedures. There will also be opportunities to take part in wider developments across the service and contribute to service delivery. The postholder will be joining a supportive, ward based team of multi-professionals who hold recovery focused and patient centred care at the heart of their work. This is advertised as a full time post, however, applications for part time work will be considered. Whilst the post will be predominately ward based, a flexible approach to working can also be considered. Training and support will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- To provide specialist psychological assessments for adult inpatients diagnosed with an eating disorder.
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of eating disorders on an inpatient unit.
- To train in and deliver specialist psychological therapies for inpatient group.
- To work in face to face individual, family and/or in group therapy settings with service users presenting with complex and distressing psychological problems associated with an eating disorder, including Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.
- To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals (both psychologists/therapists and non-psychologists) contributing directly to service users' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
- To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
- To provide reflective supervision to ward staff.
- To provide professional and clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists.
- To contribute to wider clinical governance and development across the service.

- Qualifications
- Essential: Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), HCPC registration.
- Desirable: Additional Psychotherapy qualification relevant to working with clients with complex psychological and mental health difficulties.
- Knowledge and Expertise
- Essential: Skills in conducting complex psychological assessment and intervention frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Skills in completing neuropsychological assessments, interpretation of results, and ability to communicate these sensitively as appropriate.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex and/or clinically sensitive information to clients and professional colleagues within and outside the NHS.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Skills in providing Consultation to other professionals and non-professional groups.
- Evidence of supervision training/qualification.
- Experience of supervising Assistant Psychologists, other psychological practitioners and/or MDT colleagues in psychological approaches.
