We are looking to recruit a full-time doctor to take up a Specialist role under 2021 contract terms in Ophthalmology. The main base is Chesterfield Royal, which is a busy and friendly district general hospital, where you will work as part of our well established ophthalmic team. The department has also developed good links and works collaboratively with local tertiary trusts in the surrounding area.
This is a senior appointment for an individual possessing substantial experience in ophthalmology who will be given opportunity to take an active part in the operational management of the department with colleagues and to the development of our expanding services. We are looking for an individual with good general ophthalmic skills with a willingness to develop sub-speciality skills, and it is anticipated that there will be opportunities for the appointee to develop further a nascent sub-specialty interest within the role. Training and support for those looking to achieve CESR accreditation may be available following discussion of exact development requirements.

Qualifications
- Essential: MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
- Essential: Possession of Post-Graduate qualification in Ophthalmology e.g. FRCOpth or parts thereof.
- Essential: Full registration with GMC and licence to practice.
- Desirable: Completion of a fellowship or other qualification in an ophthalmic sub-specialty or special interest or willingness to develop sub-speciality interest in post.
Experience
- Essential: Minimum 12 years' medical work (either a continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of six years should be in Ophthalmology in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades (or equivalent including overseas service).
- Desirable: Experience of performing Glaucoma surgery techniques. Management experience or attendance at courses for senior mid-level practitioners.
Skills
- Essential: Clinical supervision experience/skills.
- Essential: Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services, including experience of organising and managing out-patient priorities and waiting lists.
- Desirable: Cataract surgery skills sufficient to support safe independent UK surgical practice.
- Desirable: Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
- Desirable: Special Interest aligned with departmental operational requirements.
