An exceptional opportunity has arisen to become the next Practice Manager at Barrington Medical Centre following the planned retirement of our Practice Manager. The successful applicant will join Barrington Medical Centre in January or February 2027 and work alongside the current Practice Manager during a planned transition. This is not a pass or fail assessment but helps us understand communication preferences, leadership style and how candidates may complement our existing leadership team.

Barrington Medical Centre is a well-established GP training practice caring for approximately 7,700 patients from modern premises within Altrincham Health and Wellbeing Centre. You will be responsible for managing the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice and supporting the long-term development of the organisation.

About us: Barrington Medical Centre is a friendly, ambitious GP training practice based within Altrincham Health and Wellbeing Centre. We care for approximately 7,700 patients and have a dedicated multidisciplinary team including GP Partners, salaried GPs, GP Registrars, medical students, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, physiotherapists and experienced reception, administration and secretarial staff. As an active member of South Trafford Primary Care Network, we are involved in research, GP training and quality improvement initiatives and are continually looking for opportunities to develop and improve the services we provide. We are fortunate to have well-established systems, excellent governance processes and comprehensive operational documentation, allowing our Practice Manager to focus on leadership, service development and supporting both patients and staff.

Job responsibilities:

  • Leading, motivating and developing the practice team
  • Human Resources, recruitment, workforce planning and staff wellbeing
  • Strategic business planning and service development
  • Financial management, budgeting, contract management and maximising practice income
  • Governance, CQC compliance, risk management and organisational development
  • Information Governance, Data Security and Protection Toolkit compliance and Health and Safety
  • Business continuity planning and premises management
  • Supporting GP training, medical students, research activity and service innovation
  • Developing strong relationships with NHS organisations, the Primary Care Network and other external stakeholders
  • Working alongside the GP Partners to ensure the practice remains financially sustainable whilst maintaining excellent patient care

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Understanding of NHS Primary Care
  • Knowledge of GP contracts and practice funding
  • Knowledge of CQC standards and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of employment legislation
  • Knowledge of Information Governance, UK GDPR and Data Protection
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation
  • Knowledge of business continuity planning
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise, delegate and manage competing demands
