We wish to employ an experienced Dispenser who actively enjoys providing excellent, friendly and compassionate service to our patients, whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and accuracy. The successful applicant will enjoy working in a busy environment with lots of face-to-face and telephone patient contact, and be a proactive member of our team working not only with dispensary colleagues but with the wider practice team of Reception, Admin, Nurses and GPs.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Practices Dispensing Team, ensuring that patients receive a timely and professional service when seeking their medication.
- Ordering drugs and appliances from the wholesaler.
- Unpacking and checking all drug deliveries.
- Dispensing and checking of prescriptions.
- Checking stock levels and expiry dates of drugs on the shelves.
- Querying prescriptions with Doctors when unsure.
- Maintaining a neat and tidy working environment.
- Helping, reassuring and counselling patients when they are collecting drugs from the surgery.
- Collecting prescriptions charges or checking exemption certificates.
- Keeping the Controlled Drug book up to date and ensuring all entries are made.
- Supporting and advising the dispensary clerks.
This role is based across two sites so being able to drive and access to a vehicle is essential.

Job responsibilities:
- To be responsible for dispensing and checking all medicines, safely and accurately and in line with dispensary procedures.
- Putting together dosettes and checking dosettes dispensed by other members of the team to help ensure 100% accuracy.
- Maintaining stock levels and ordering stock for the dispensary.
- Checking goods received on twice daily deliveries against invoices, unpacking and shelving goods.
- Ordering dispensary supplies.
- Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy.
- Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with practice policy.
- Safe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines.
- Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed in a timely manner and in accordance with SOP.
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.
- Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately.
- Prescription collection: dealing with patients who call to collect their medicines.
- Checking patient exemption, taking appropriate prescription fees and accounting for these using the till.
- Balancing the till every day.
- Monthly accounting for prescriptions and sending them to the NHS Prescription Pricing Authority.
- Assisting / undertaking an annual stock check and valuation.
- Supporting the practice reception and other admin support team roles when necessary.
