In this Specialty Doctor role you will provide high-quality medical input to the Community Perinatal services across Essex from Chelmsford. You will work under consultant perinatal psychiatrists to support mother, baby and family outcomes in a community setting. The post covers North Essex with links to major hospitals, and you will contribute to clinical governance, service development and quality improvement. Responsibilities
- Provide high quality medical care with support from consultant perinatal psychiatrists across the Perinatal Service
- Maintain expertise for excellent perinatal mental health care to optimise outcomes for mother, infant and family
- Provide medical input in community settings aligned with the job plan, including mental health assessments and mother-infant relationships analysis
- Ensure care aligns with the service vision and values, enabling shared decision making with patients and families
- Maintain transparent, clear communication with patients and professionals
- Support consultant psychiatrists in supervising junior doctors and offering clinical advice
- Collaborate with professionals and agencies to coordinate after-care
- Contribute to quality improvement activities, audits, service evaluation and research
- Engage in ongoing evaluations and national audits, responding to recommendations
- Participate in service evaluation and planning for future developments
- Arrange cover for responsibilities during leave with consultant colleagues
Key requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983 (Desirable)
- Eligible for full GMC registration at time of appointment
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Evidence of Foundation competencies by time of appointment according to GMC Good Medical Practice
- Valid UK driving licence or alternative arrangement
- Disclosure and Barring Service check suitability for post
- Current UK professional registration
