Overview
In this role you will provide comprehensive obstetrics and gynaecology services with a dedicated oncology focus, supporting service development and multidisciplinary collaboration. You will work across MSE sites and contribute to safe, patient-centred care while advancing your specialist interest in oncology. The post emphasises innovation, patient safety, and continuous improvement within a forward-thinking team. This is a hands-on consultant role with leadership in surgical and clinical settings, shaping local cancer and benign specialist care.
Responsibilities
- Provide full obstetrics and gynaecology services, including labour ward cover, antenatal and general gynaecology clinics, and elective/emergency theatre work
- Develop a specialist focus in oncology and support the oncology lead in managing cancer and complex benign cases
- Deliver high-quality surgical care with advanced minimal access (laparoscopic) techniques
- Contribute to service delivery across Mid and South Essex sites, supporting service change and quality improvement
- Collaborate within the team to ensure safe, effective, patient-centred care across obstetrics and gynaecology services
Key requirements
- MBBS or Equivalent
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- Completed ATSM in Oncology / Benign Gynaecology
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of CCT at time of interview
- Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
- Effective communication with colleagues, other specialties and support staff
- Ability to supervise undergraduates, resident doctors and other staff; teaching clinical skills
- Independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- Colposcopy accreditation
- Minimal access surgery skills
- Gynaecology robotic surgery experience
