North West London Pathology is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and proactive Cellular Pathology Medical Workforce and Cancer Pathway Manager to join the Division of Infection, Immunity and Cellular Diagnostic Sciences. This is a key Band 8b leadership role within Cellular Pathology, based at Charing Cross Hospital, with responsibility across the wider North West London Pathology network.
The post holder will provide senior operational leadership for two important areas of service delivery: medical workforce planning for the Histopathology clinical team, including Consultant Histopathologists and Resident Doctors, and the management of Cellular Pathology cancer pathway performance across the network. This is an opportunity for an individual with strong operational management, workforce planning, cancer performance, governance and stakeholder management skills to make a direct contribution to patient pathways, diagnostic turnaround times, clinical workforce sustainability and the delivery of national cancer standards.
The successful candidate will be expected to use data, performance intelligence and collaborative working to support continuous improvement, reduce pathway risks and ensure Cellular Pathology services remain responsive, resilient and aligned to the needs of patients and clinical teams.
Main duties of the job
- Will work as a key member of the NWLP operational Management Team, which is responsible for the effective operational management and strategic direction of Pathology Services across the Three Owner Trusts.
- Will lead on and work in partnership with the general manager, operational manager and specialty leads to develop and promote efficient and effective systems and processes in the management of the medical resources including finance, staff, information, equipment and space.
- Will ensure the Operational area contributes to and meets the NWL Pathology Objectives including supporting the divisional management team in working within agreed budget and delivering cost improvement savings.
- Will take a lead in the continuing provision of a high quality and responsive service meeting both regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Contribute to the formulation and implementation of strategies and plans to achieve national Cancer standards in line with NHSE Pathology Quality and Assurance frameworks.
- To facilitate the development of action plans in response to quality improvement, to implement strategic developments and enhance patient pathways.
- Constantly review the quality of medical workforce services provided, explaining the causes of success and failure and liaise with operational and clinical colleagues to ensure ongoing improvement in service provision.

Person Specification
Education
- Essential: BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent
- MSc in a science based subject or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- Recognised management qualification or suitable proven and relevant experience of managing complex systems
- Desirable: HCPC Registration
- Experience/qualification within medical workforce management
- Experience/qualification within Histopathology or Cancer Services performance management
