Overview
In this role you will provide middle-grade paediatric cover for SSPAU and inpatient care, supporting both acute assessment and admission pathways. You will work alongside consultants and junior trainees, contributing to high-quality, safe care across the CIC and WCH sites. You will help develop the SSPAU hours with experienced and newly qualified nurse practitioners, and support ED resus and neonatal resuscitation teams. This position blends clinical leadership, teaching, and cross-site collaboration to improve paediatric services in a rural NHS setting.

Responsibilities
- Assess and manage acute paediatric patients presenting to the unit for assessment or admission
- Provide seasoned paediatric support to the emergency department and resuscitation area, including attendance at resuscitation bay
- Deliver advanced neonatal resuscitation cover to the labour ward and postnatal unit
- Middle-grade cover of Level 1 SCBU, Transitional Care and Postnatal ward
- Supervise junior staff and PNPs
- Support junior doctors to maintain high standards of communication during handover and discharge
- Participate in general paediatric outpatient clinics
- Contribute to teaching of junior doctors, nursing staff and medical students
Key requirements
- MBChB or equivalent
- GMC registration with licence to practice
- EPLS/APLS or equivalent life support certification
- Foundation competencies achieved by appointment
- SHO paediatrics competencies demonstrated
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification training (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years paediatrics experience
- Practical resuscitation and stabilisation experience in premature babies
- Good English communication skills
- Desirable: MRCPCH parts, NHS experience, multidisciplinary team experience, child protection training
