Mammographer in Carlisle

2x 37.5 hrs Trainee Mammographer posts available. Successful candidates must have a HCPC registration in Diagnostic Radiography and will be expected to complete a PgC in Mammography. Post starts at band 5 raising to band 6 on completion of the PgC (if successful applicants current post is band 6, this will remain). Majority of training will be at CIC; however, on completion of the certificate, cross-site working will be expected.

The North Cumbria Breast Imaging Unit offers a wide range of high-quality services for all patients with breast problems. It is also the centre for the North Cumbria Breast Screening Programme. All care is patient-centred and is delivered within a supportive environment by a team of experts, who are all specialists within their own field.

We are a friendly department based across two sites making the most of the skills of both Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners by encouraging role development and advanced practice having adopted the four-tier structure with 1 Consultant Mammographers and 3 Advanced Practitioners in post. We are looking for a qualified Female* Mammographer to join our breast imaging team. Training will be provided for the right applicant. The Post holder will be based at West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven but will be expected to travel to Cumberland Infirmary if required.

Main duties of the job:

You will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team providing both screening and symptomatic breast imaging to the population of North and West Cumbria. You will gain a wealth of experience in breast imaging supported by the existing breast imaging team. The North Cumbria Breast Screening Unit provides screening to approximately 22,500 women per year between the ages of 50-70 as part of the National Health Service Breast Programme.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• Essential: BSc Radiography or equivalent.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Good command of the English language with a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
• Post Graduate qualifications at Masters level in Mammographic practice.

Knowledge and Experience:

• Essential: Radiography, wide range of practical experience, experience of supervision of less experienced radiographers, students and departmental staff, knowledge of National Health Service Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic services, radiation protection, continuing professional development with portfolio.
• Desirable: Breast Imaging, National Health Service Breast Screening Service Programme for England, experience of working in a multidisciplinary team, knowledge of screening services.

Skills and Aptitudes:

• Essential: Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills whilst respecting confidentiality, leadership skills, demonstrate good organisational and time management skills, demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills, demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in an unpredictable environment, maintaining a calm & professional manner, good attention to detail.
• Desirable: Ability to exercise own initiative and judgement, and assess clinical situations.
