Overview
In this role you will support Ophthalmology teams in Medical Retina and Glaucoma while developing advanced clinical assessment skills. You will work with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centred care, uphold safety and evidence-based practice, and contribute to policy implementation. You will mentor junior medical staff to meet training needs and pursue local advanced clinical practice requirements. This opportunity combines clinical autonomy with collaboration in a purpose-driven, rural NHS setting.

Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose differentially, plan and evaluate treatments for patients
- Prescribe independently or review medications within scope, aligned with evidence-based practice
- Prioritise workload and embed time-management in the team culture
- Collaborate with clinicians and nursing staff to define care values, direction and policies
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure data input into computerised systems
- Communicate deviations from progress to consultants for timely evaluation
- Collaborate with clinical teams to improve quality of care and respond to local/national policies
Key requirements
- Registered healthcare practitioner with current registration
- Leadership course and CPD portfolio
- Masters degree level in Ophthalmology
- Clinical experience in Medical Retina and/or Glaucoma in an acute hospital eye service
- Experience managing own caseload, teaching, mentoring and assessment
- Experience implementing policy, SOPs and operational processes
- Committed to quality assurance, service improvement, clinical audit and research
- Autonomous clinical practitioner with self-management of caseload
- Knowledge of NHS cancer and routine pathway standards
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Self-motivation and personal leadership
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Advanced clinical/analytical reasoning
- Independent prescriber or PGD prescribing within scope
- IT proficiency and experience with hospital information systems
