Overview
In this Specialty Doctor role, you will contribute to the management of complex gastroenterology, hepatology and intestinal failure patients within a highly specialised department. You will work across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, endoscopy activity and MDTs, supporting teaching, audit and clinical governance. The post sits within a large NHS Wales health board delivering local and tertiary services and offers opportunities for service development and CESR support. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient flow, care quality and outcomes across Cardiff and the Vale. This is a meaningful chance to shape care in a busy, academically active environment.
Responsibilities
- Inpatient ward duties and ward rounds including review of investigations
- Manage patient admissions with multi-disciplinary team involvement
- Outpatient clinics (Upper GI and related services) and endoscopy activity
- Participation in MDTs, teaching, audit and clinical governance
- Support service development and annual appraisal/job planning
- Contribute to CESR support and ongoing professional development
Key requirements
- MBBS or recognised equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
- MRCP or recognised equivalent
- Four years of postgraduate training with at least two in a relevant specialty or equivalent experience
- Commitment to team approach and multidisciplinary working
- Counselling and communication skills
- Clinical governance awareness
- Up to date with current practices in Respiratory Medicine
- Ability to take independent clinical decisions and seek advice as needed
- Teaching and audit interest
