Overview
In this role you will join the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to support high‑quality genetic testing and laboratory work. You will operate within a busy, patient‑facing genomics environment as part of a collaborative team at the Wales Genomic Health Centre. The post offers a permanent or 12‑month fixed‑term opportunity with flexible working, contributing to Wales’ genomics capability and equity in access to testing. You will be involved in managing clinical samples and lab workflows to support diagnostic services at scale.
Key requirements
- Significant laboratory experience with good laboratory practices and aseptic techniques
- Experience handling lab equipment (micropipettes, centrifuges, vortex)
- Knowledge of genetic testing, cell types and morphology
- Relevant science-based HND (Level 5) with significant lab experience
- Knowledge of legislation (Human Tissue Act, Health and Safety, COSHH, Data Protection) and understanding of UKAS requirements
- Ability to work well with colleagues at all levels and demonstrate flexibility to service needs
- Highly developed lab skills for precise micro-manipulation of clinical samples
- Use of Microsoft Office packages; good keyboard skills; attention to detail and record keeping
- Welsh language skills desirable (levels 1–5)
