Overview
In this permanent role you lead the Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Phlebotomy services across multiple sites to deliver high-quality, compliant laboratory care.
You will manage resources, drive continuous improvement, and uphold accreditation standards while providing specialist reference support to other hospitals in Wales and the UK.
You’ll collaborate with clinical leads and operations to align service delivery with organizational goals, and shape cross-site transformation.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of service delivery and quality to maintain high standards
- Act as budget holder and ensure financial controls
- Lead and develop teams within UHB policies and procedures
- Oversee quality management to retain UKAS, MHRA, and HTA accreditation
- Collaborate with colleagues, lab teams, clinical leads, and service managers
- Provide specialist reference services to external hospitals across Wales and the UK
- Uphold UHB values and lead by example
- Support cross-site services across UHW, UHL and Velindre sites
- Key requirements
- MSc (Biomedical Science) or equivalent
- Registration with HCPC
- Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
- Postgraduate management qualification (Diploma level or equivalent)
- Significant experience at a post-specialist/supervisory level
- Experience of managing a laboratory department or large sub-section
- Experience of initiating and managing large-scale change within a service
- Facilitation and delegation
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Analytical mindset
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards
- Expert knowledge of LIMS systems
- Analytical reasoning for quality and performance management
