Overview
In this role you join the Welsh Specialist Virology Centre within Public Health Wales Infection Services, providing leadership in infection care and aiming to improve patient pathways and service quality. You will work in a multidisciplinary Clinical Infection Team to support Cardiff and Vale UHB and the wider PHW network, contributing to service developments and audits. The post offers opportunity to focus on Virology, Infectious Diseases and, potentially, Infectious Disease service time, with impact across hospitals and public health settings. This position appeals to experienced clinicians who shape infection services and collaborate across Trusts.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to maintain and improve quality of infection services
- Promote multi-professional teamwork within the department
- Coordinate communication with PHW Trusts, other health boards and microbiology services
- Contribute to departmental meetings and service developments
- Develop patient-focused pathways and participate in clinical audit, review, and planning
- Prepare business cases and contribute to service development aligned with Infection Service network objectives
- Oversee procurement discussions and strengthen links with primary/community care providers and commissioners
Key requirements
- Full and specialist GMC registration (or eligible within six months)
- UK-trained: CCT in Virology and/or Virology and Infectious Diseases and/or Medical Microbiology and Virology (or within six months of award) or evidence of equivalence to UK CCT/FRCPath
- Desirable MRCP or equivalent; FRCPath in Virology (desirable)

- Experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
