Overview
In this role you will lead specialist rheumatology care across two hospitals, shaping a high-volume service for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver outpatient clinics, day-unit care, and on-call cover, while driving service improvement. The post involves supervising registrars and nurse-led clinics, and coordinating complex care in partnership with other specialties. Your work will support a large biologics/DMARD service and contribute to the board’s transformation and patient-outcome goals.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct clinical care including emergency on-call duties
- Attend ward reviews and respond to GCA requests via primary and secondary care
- Run a minimum of 4 outpatient clinics across two hospitals
- Perform clinical diagnostic work and review results
- Conduct urgent direct patient reviews/treatments on the rheumatology day unit
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary meetings focused on patient care
- Handle administration related to patient care and prescription preparation for a large biologics/DMARD service
- Supervise the registrar team and nurse-led biologics clinic
- Oversee infusion therapies within the day unit
- Contribute to ongoing service improvement and on-call coverage
Key requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- On Specialist Register for Rheumatology (CESR / Speciality Registrar with CCT due within 6 months of interview date)
- Prevous NHS Experience in Rheumatology
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Self motivated and flexible approach to work pattern to meet service needs
- Evidence of clinical audit participation
- Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
- Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal/revalidation
- Evidence of teaching medical students/resident doctors
