Overview
As a Consultant in Oral Medicine at the University Dental Hospital, you will help shape the strategy for Oral Medicine across the health board and contribute to high-quality education in collaboration with Cardiff University. You will work at the interface of medicine and dentistry, supporting regional networks and academic activity. The role offers a leadership position in a teaching centre, with opportunities to influence clinical governance, research, and education. This is a chance to drive improvements in patient care and academic excellence within a large health board.
Responsibilities
- Shape the strategy for Oral Medicine within the health board
- Collaborate with Cardiff University to deliver high-quality undergraduate education
- Support development of networks where medicine and dentistry interface
- Engage in regional/clinical governance, audit, and improvements
- Contribute to teaching and supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Key requirements
- Full Registration with the General Dental Council
- On Specialist Register for Oral Medicine or eligible within six months of interview date
- Successful completion of an SAC approved training programme in Oral Medicine or within six months of completion
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination (ISFE) in Oral Medicine, or equivalent
- Experience in multidisciplinary management of Oral Medicine patients including those on systemic therapies
- Effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Self-motivated and flexible approach to work
- Strong communication skills with patients and colleagues
- Ability to critically appraise research
- Experience with clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives
- Teaching and supervision of undergraduates and postgraduates
