Overview
In this role you will lead anaesthetic care across multiple surgical specialties while integrating chronic pain management within the department. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and support teaching and research in partnership with Cardiff University. The position combines high-level anaesthesia duties with specialist pain medicine, contributing to a leading academic health board. You will have a visible impact on patient outcomes through collaborative, team-based care and ongoing clinical governance. A strong hook is the department’s active research programme and commitment to education.

Responsibilities
- Primary role within the Chronic Pain Service alongside broader anaesthetic duties
- Provide cross-coverage for consultant colleagues to ensure continuity of service
- Take advantage of sessions across multiple surgical disciplines (e.g., Vascular, Neuroradiology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Trauma, Gynaecological Surgery)
- Engage in research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine
- Contribute to governance, appraisal, and risk management in line with the job plan
Key requirements
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
- On Specialist Register for specialty / CCT or CESR(CP) due within six months of interview
- Broad training in Anaesthetics with additional pain medicine experience
- Evidence of advanced pain medicine training or equivalent
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary teamwork
- Experience in clinical audit and understanding of clinical governance
- Active research interests and teaching experience
