Overview
In this role you will provide consultant-level anaesthesia across a broad range of surgical specialties within the Cardiff and Vale Academic Health Board. You will work closely with a large, teaching-focused department to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and contribute to teaching and supervision of junior doctors. The post offers opportunities for academic collaboration with Cardiff University and involvement in research, audits, and service development. You will participate in on-call duties and help sustain a dynamic, multi-disciplinary anaesthesia service. This is a flexible, full-time post with a strong emphasis on professional growth and transformation of care.

Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level anaesthetic cover across General, Vascular, Neuro, Urology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Head & Neck, Ophthalmology, Trauma, Breast, Thrombectomy and Gynaecological Surgery
- Work collaboratively to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and support service delivery
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota
- Supervise and train junior doctors
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development
- Contribute to research, teaching and overall department activity
Key requirements
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
- On Specialist Register for specialty / CCT or CESR(CP) due within six months of interview
- Broad training and experience in Anaesthetics
- Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working; counselling and communication skills
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding of clinical risk management and governance; engagement with revalidation
- Active Research Interests; desirable: initiating and publishing research projects
- Commitment to management processes
- Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors; desirable: organisation of teaching programmes
