Overview
In this role you will shape and optimise Public Health Wales's Azure cloud environments to support essential healthcare services. You will manage resources, ensure reliability, performance and security while adhering to NHS Wales security standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and act as a subject-matter expert, guiding implementation, knowledge transfer and documentation. This permanent role contributes to the cloud strategy and digital capability, with training provided to grow your cloud skills. You join a mission-driven team delivering digital health services across Wales.
Responsibilities
- Manage and optimise Azure resources and environments for performance and availability
- Maintain and secure cloud infrastructure for clinical and non-clinical systems
- Act as SME, leading implementation, knowledge transfer and documentation
- Support delivery of cloud roadmaps and strategies for Public Health Wales and NHS Wales
- Collaborate with other technical service teams and report to 365 Engineering Lead
Key requirements
- Degree-level knowledge in computer science or related field or equivalent
- Knowledge of data security, governance and compliance regulations
- Excellent knowledge of building and configuring Azure environments
- Knowledge of Azure cost management tools and techniques for optimising cloud spend
- Advanced experience as a cloud engineer in an enterprise environment
- Implementing and scaling Azure Landing Zone
- Experience in cloud networking, security and Azure Firewall
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) projects
- PowerShell scripting and IaC tools (Bicep, Terraform)
- Azure Resource Manager templates
- Advanced identity management with Microsoft Entra (AzureAD)
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with Azure landing zone architectures and cloud adoption best practices
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Team collaboration and knowledge sharing
