Overview
In this Clinical Scientist role within the Cancer Section of the All Wales Medical Genomics Service, you will deliver genetic testing for solid tumours, haematological cancers and germline predispositions.
You work within a multidisciplinary team, lead components of the genetics service, and help drive service development and genomic innovation.
The post supports strategic investment in genomic diagnostics and aims for equitable access to testing.

Responsibilities
- Provide genetic testing for solid tumours, haematological cancers and germline predisposition; operate within policy-guided procedures
- Manage an additional Genetics service component (e. g., Quality, Training)
- Lead service developments in collaboration with section head
- Contribute to in-house whole genome sequencing development and collaboration with bioinformatics
- Support cross-functional work with bioinformatics and clinical teams
- Participate in appraisal process and professional development
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance and clinical governance in lab genetics
- Engage in workload management and KPI monitoring

- HCPC Clinical Scientist Registration
- Commitment to sitting FRCPath Part 1
- BSc Hons in Biological / Medical Science (or equivalent)
- Experience of managing people or services in a laboratory environment
- Proven ability to manage workload including monitoring KPIs
- Knowledge of genetics of common disorders served by the laboratory/genetic services
- Knowledge of bioinformatic tools for genetic data analysis
- Knowledge of QA and Clinical Governance in Lab Genetics
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organisational abilities
- Leadership and people-management experience
- Knowledge of bioinformatic tools (microarrays, DNA sequence data, MLPA)
- Data analysis using NGS software and in silico analysis packages
- Experience with FISH and karyotyping (as appropriate)
