Overview
In this Internal Audit Manager role within the Specialist Services Unit, you will lead and deliver audits across NHS Wales organisations, managing a portfolio of project and estates assurance work and performing high‑level reviews of risks, governance, and financial management. You will support audit plan development, mentor staff, and contribute to assurance that controls and governance enable safe patient services. The role sits in a high‑profile public sector environment focused on value for money and continuous improvement. You will work with cross‑functional teams to strengthen governance and assurance.

Responsibilities
- Support development and delivery of the audits plan across NHS Wales organisations
- Manage a portfolio of project and estates assurance audits
- Deliver complex high‑level reviews of risks, strategies and governance structures
- Assess Quality & Safety Arrangements, financial management and service provision within directorates
- Provide recommendations to enhance procedures and controls
- Supervise junior staff and contribute to staff training
- Present complex audit findings to stakeholders as needed
Key requirements
- CCAB qualified accountant or MIIA qualified auditor with post‑qualification experience
- Extensive experience of internal audit, public sector audit and/or NHS experience
- Audit management experience including management of junior staff
- Experience of auditing across a range of clients and producing complex audit reports with recommendations
- Advanced knowledge of internal audit and risk management; knowledge of contract forms (NEC, JCT, ICE, MIM) and NHS infrastructure considerations
- Experience with NHS capital projects and estates assurance requirements
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Persuasion and negotiation abilities
- Strong analytical and interpretational skills
- IT skills (Excel, Word)
- Project management and work planning
- Knowledge of Public Sector Internal Audit Standards
