The Cardiac Investigations Unit (CIU) Manager provides senior strategic and operational leadership across all services within the Cardiac Investigations Unit, including Echocardiography, Cardiac Rhythm Management, and Non-invasive Cardiac Diagnostics. Working in partnership with Cardiology and divisional leadership teams, the post holder will ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient service delivery across Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and referring hospitals within the Lancashire and South Cumbria (L&SC) region. The post-holder serves as the technical lead for the L&SC network, responsible for developing and implementing patient pathways, clinical protocols, and service improvement initiatives. As an expert autonomous practitioner, the post-holder provides advanced specialist cardiac physiology practice while ensuring high-quality care, regulatory compliance, and efficient use of resources.

Person Specification:

Education and Qualification:

  • Essential: BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • Post graduate certification in Specialist area of cardiac physiology in either: BHRS, BSE accreditation or equivalent
  • NHS Management qualification
  • Desirable: Teaching, mentorship or assessors' qualification

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Essential: Extensive post graduate qualification experience in cardiac physiology
  • Service Management Experience with a good understanding of NHS policy and service provision
  • Extensive experience of staff management including HR policy implementation
  • Extensive knowledge of national, professional and NHS guidelines relating to cardiac physiology & Healthcare Science service provision, quality and education and funding streams
  • Experience of monitoring budgets, resource allocation, procurement and business planning processes
  • Service improvement and change management techniques
