Overview

In this role you will provide expert pharmaceutical care to cardiothoracic critical care patients within a collaborative, state-of-the-art hospital. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medicines management in critical care and theatres, while helping develop guidelines and leading quality improvement or research projects. You will mentor junior pharmacists and contribute to leadership within the pharmacy department. This role offers a chance to drive safe, evidence-based practice in a high-impact clinical area and grow into senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patients' pharmaceutical care and perform bedside reviews
  • Attend multidisciplinary ward rounds and meetings to inform care
  • Contribute to development of guidelines and policies in area of expertise
  • Support safe and effective medicines management in theatres and critical care
  • Mentor and train senior rotational pharmacists in the Critical Care unit
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives or research projects in the department
  • Deliver training sessions to clinical staff
  • Line manage a small team of pharmacists and participate in senior pharmacist leadership
  • Promote safe medicines management within Critical Care and Theatres environments

Key requirements

  • M Pharm (or equivalent); Registered Pharmacist; Pg Diploma Clinical Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
  • Good clinical pharmacy foundation and experience in a critical care environment
  • Experience of clinical audit and/or research
  • Good IT, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to write detailed reports analysable by others
  • Analytical, problem solving, and critical appraisal skills
  • Ability to prioritise work and work unsupervised
  • High-quality interpersonal and leadership skills; experience of managing change
  • Desirable: Independent Prescriber; experience supervising and training junior staff
