In this HR Manager role, you will provide expert, professional HR guidance to managers and senior leaders within the HRBP team. You will handle complex and sensitive employee relations cases, sickness absence, and policy interpretation, while supporting Clinical Service Units on change and service development initiatives. You’ll manage designated HR Officers and collaborate on staff engagement, wellbeing, and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion to advance a Just & Learning Culture. Responsibilities

  • Provide confident, policy- and case-law–based advice to managers
  • Develop workforce and local service plans; advise on workforce requirements and trends
  • Lead change management and negotiate with Trade Union/Professional Association representatives
  • Manage HR Officers and maintain oversight of issues
  • Support absence management, vacancies, turnover, service improvement, and workforce deployment
  • Deliver professional HR guidance and present management cases at hearings and appeals
  • Monitor and analyse workforce data to optimise resource use
  • Advise on interpretation of HR policies, terms, conditions, and employment law
  • Evaluate Job Descriptions per Agenda for Change; design and deliver training
  • Contribute to wider HR agendas and participate in policy reviews as directed

Key requirements

  • Significant HR experience in a complex, unionised environment
  • Experience interpreting and applying employment law and terms & conditions
  • Staff management experience
  • Experience designing and delivering training
  • Experience developing policies
  • Desirable NHS HR advisory experience
