Overview
In this Specialty Doctor role at Sowenna, you join a 14-bed adolescent inpatient unit delivering patient-centred care for 13–18-year-olds with complex mental health needs. You will perform psychiatric assessments, develop treatment plans, and participate in weekly reviews within a multidisciplinary team. The post offers CPD, supervision, and opportunities to contribute to service improvement while supporting your career development. You will work to improve outcomes for young people and families in a forward-thinking, inclusive service.

Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric assessments and develop initial treatment plans with weekly reviews
- Lead or chair clinical CPA meetings with supervision available
- Supervise Sowenna Junior Clinical Fellow
- Triages referrals with the MDT and assesses admission suitability
- Coordinate actions from ward rounds and liaise with patients, carers, and community teams
Key requirements
- Recognised basic Medical Degree
- Eligible for Specialty Doctor grade
- GMC registration eligible at time of appointment
- Evidence of Foundation competencies aligning with GMC Good Medical Practice
- Evidence of ST1/CT1 competences with potential for ST2/CT2
- Clinical governance mindset and awareness of patient safety
- Effective written and spoken communication
- Empathy and patient-centered approach
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Clinical knowledge in acute and psychiatric settings
- Clinical judgement and decision-making under risk
- Experience with assessing and managing CAMHS presentations (desirable)
