Overview
In this role you will be the first point of contact for patients with foot and ankle problems within a PCN, delivering expert assessment, diagnosis, and management without GP referrals. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to improve access to specialist podiatry care, reduce GP workload, and implement a seamless podiatry service across the PCN. You will educate patients, guide equipment and orthotics use, and contribute to governance and service development in a dynamic primary care setting.
Responsibilities
- Act as a first contact clinician for foot and ankle conditions, seeing patients without prior GP assessment
- Prescribe, produce, and fit orthotics and other aids
- Provide specialist treatment for high-risk groups and amputations risk reduction
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a seamless podiatry support service across the PCN
- Undertake comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of musculoskeletal/podiatric conditions
- Deliver foot health education and ensure clinical governance, audits, supervision, and training
- Maintain accurate clinical records and provide evidence-based treatment plans with appropriate referrals
- Work across four GP practices, reduce podiatry workload, and improve patient flow
- Contribute to PCN podiatry pathways, referral processes, and DES/access objectives
- Engage in MDT discussions, clinical supervision, CPD, and revalidation
- Ensure safeguarding, infection prevention, and information governance compliance
Key requirements
- BSc OR Pre Reg MSc in podiatry (approved by College of Podiatry)
- HCPC registered Podiatrist
- Experience of autonomous clinical decision-making
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and clinical reasoning skills
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in primary care settings
- Excellent communication and patient-centred consultation skills
- IT literate with experience or willingness to learn clinical systems
